Fullerton Municipal Code Section 2.01.020 Use of seal, states:

It is unlawful for any person to make or use the seal of the City, or reproduction thereof, for any purpose other than for the official business of the City, its Council, officers or departments. (Ord. 2543 (part), 1985).

City of Fullerton Administrative Policy No. 34 (637950237575600000 (cityoffullerton.com)) sets additional policy and procedures for use of the City Seal.  The policy deems the the following activities as official business of the City of Fullerton:

  • City events planned, managed and staffed by City and/or contract employees
  • Public events that receive all, or portion of, funding from the City
  • City Council sanctioned events
  • Other events relevant to operation of the City, as determined by the City Manager.

Staff may request approval to use the City seal with this process:

  • Only City staff may request use of the City Seal.
  • The City Clerk will consider the request in a timely fashion and maintain a log that serves as a record of all requests.
  • Each request must include supporting material that demonstrates the activity is official business of the City of Fullerton. For example, a memo from the Department Director stating that City and/or contract employees will plan, manage and/or staff the event or a record of City  Council action, such as minutes.
  • The City Clerk will consider requests on a "case-by-case" basis and grant temporary approval only. For example, a request to use the City seal as part of marketing material for an annual City event would require submitting a request to use the City Seal to the City Clerk each year.
  • The City Clerk may revoke approval to use the City seal at any time.
