The City has a tuition reimbursement program to encourage you to increase your knowledge and ability in your present job or to prepare you for a higher-level job within your field.

Courses taken must exceed your classification's educational standard. This means, for example, graduate courses for a position where only an undergraduate degree is the standard. Courses cannot be taken on City time and must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

If you leave the City, you'll have to repay any funds you received under this program for courses completed during the final 12 months of employment.

If you participate in this program, you must obtain written approval for the course from Human Resources Management prior to enrollment. Otherwise, there is no guarantee you will be reimbursed for tuition after completing the course. Further, your request for reimbursement should be submitted as soon as possible after you receive your grades.

In addition to tuition reimbursement, sworn Police and Fire employees may, under certain conditions, receive a fixed amount for completing City-approved courses.
